Gulf States discuss nuclear plans with IAEA

[International Herald Tribune, 11 February] Officials from The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will meet with the International Atomic Energy Agency to seek help planning the development ofnuclear energy, according to the council's secretary genera,l Abdul Rahman al-Attiyah. The GCC's members are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The GCC announced in December 2006 its intentions to develop nuclear energy in the Gulf region.
