Deliveries under the SEK 2 billion ($257 million) contract, which Sandvik describes as multi-year, are due to begin in 2013. Peter Gossas, president of the Sandvik Materials Technology business area, said the agreement strengthened the company's position as a leading supplier of steam generator tubes to the nuclear industry. "The nuclear power industry places extremely high demands on product quality and performance," he said.

The order follows Sandvik's announcement earlier this year of an expansion of production capacity for high-alloy steam generator tubes to cater for growing demand from the nuclear power industry. The first phase of the capacity expansion at the Sandviken plant is scheduled to go on stream at the beginning of 2010.
