Agreement assures Korean expert support for UAE plant operations
Nuclear experts from Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power will support operations at the United Arab Emirates' Barakah nuclear power plant through its first decade under an Operating Support Services Agreement signed by KHNP and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation.

Third Barakah reactor vessel in place
The reactor vessel has been installed for unit 3 of the Barakah nuclear power plant under construction in the United Arab Emirates. All four units at the site should be in operation by 2020.

Barakah containment building passes tests
Tests to evaluate the strength and leak tightness of the containment building at the United Arab Emirates' first nuclear unit at Barakah have been completed successfully. The structural integrity test and the integrated leak rate test, which together demonstrate the integrity and robustness of the structure and its ability to perform under normal and extraordinary circumstances, took several weeks to complete.

Emirati companies benefit from nuclear program
The construction of the United Arab Emirates' first nuclear power plant has seen 1400 Emirati companies share contracts worth a total of over $3 billion over the past six years, benefitting the economy and stimulating the growth of heavy industry in the country, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation announced today.

Nawah to manage UAE units
The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec) has approved the formation of Nawah Energy Company to operate and maintain Barakah units 1-4. Separately, an agreement with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will give the United Arab Emirates access to software tools to assist in radiation protection and assessment.
