Approval for Korean repository expansion
Plans to more than double the current capacity of South Korea's low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste disposal facility at Gyeongju have been approved by the government. Construction of the second phase of the facility is expected to be completed in 2019.

Agreement assures Korean expert support for UAE plant operations
Nuclear experts from Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power will support operations at the United Arab Emirates' Barakah nuclear power plant through its first decade under an Operating Support Services Agreement signed by KHNP and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation.

Construction permits for two more Shin Kori units
South Korea's nuclear regulator has today approved the construction of units 5 and 6 of the Shin Kori nuclear power plant. The APR1400 units are scheduled to begin operating in March 2021 and 2022, respectively.

The Korea Atomic Industrial Forum has signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate with Rosatom subsidiary Rosatom International Network. The agreement aims to enhance communications between the Russian and Korean nuclear power industries.

L-3 MAPPS awarded contract for Korean Candu simulator
Canada's L-3 MAPPS is to supply a full-scope training simulator for the Wolsong 1 Candu pressurized heavy water reactor in South Korea under a contract signed with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power. It will mark L-3's first implementation of severe accident simulation for Candu plants.

US and South Korea launch new commission
The USA and South Korea have formally launched the High Level Bilateral Commission to facilitate strategic dialogue and technical exchanges on peaceful nuclear cooperation between the two countries as required under their bilateral nuclear cooperation agreement.

Grid connection for first Korean APR-1400
