Tuesday, 3 April 2007
[JNFL, 2 April] Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd (JNFL) announced the start of tests on the cascade of its advanced centrifuge uranium enrichment system. The company aims to start production of enriched uranium using the system in 2010. In order to develop higher performance centrifuges, JNFL has been carrying out various tests and assessment of new centrifuges since 2000, which will be installed in 2010. While most enrichment services are still imported, JNFL operates a commercial enrichment plant at Rokkasho. Its eventual capacity is planned to be 1.5 million SWU per year.
