Egyptian-Russian officials inspect El Dabaa plant site

A high-level Egyptian-Russian delegation last week paid a working visit to the construction site of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant. The delegation on 15 July was led by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt Mohamed Shaker and Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachov. It followed Rosatom's announcement on 1 July that the Nuclear Power Plants Authority of Egypt has applied to the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority for a construction permit for units 1 and 2 of what will be Egypt's first nuclear power plant. Rosatom said that once the permit has been granted full-scale construction work will start.

The Nuclear Power Plants Authority of Egypt has applied to the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority for a construction permit for units 1 and 2 of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant. Russia's Rosatom said today that once the permit has been granted full-scale construction work will start.

Egypt's Petrojet signs teaming agreement with Korean nuclear companies

Petrojet - an Egyptian petroleum sector company - is boosting cooperation with South Korean companies including Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Kepco E&C, Hyundai E&C and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction to participate in Egypt's first nuclear power plant project. The El Dabaa plant is to be built by Russia's JSC Atomstroyexport as the general contractor for the project. Petrojet Chairman Waleed Lotfy signed a teaming agreement with representatives of the South Korean companies, who visited Petrojet's headquarters in Cairo on 16 March.

El Dabaa NPP as significant as Aswan High Dam, says Russian ambassador

The importance of Egypt's first nuclear power plant is comparable to that of the Aswan High Dam, Russia’s Ambassador to Egypt Georgy Borisenko said this week. Built across the Nile in Aswan, Egypt, between 1960 and 1970, the world's biggest embankment dam was designed by the Moscow-based Hydroproject Institute. Borisenko made the comparison during a visit to the El Dabaa plant's construction site, together with the chairman of Egypt’s Nuclear Power Plants Authority, Amged El-Wakeel.

Russia's NCCP to supply Egyptian research reactor

Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant has signed a 10-year contract with the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority for the supply of low-enriched nuclear fuel components, such as uranium and aluminium items, for the ETRR-2 research reactor. NCCP is a subsidiary of Russian nuclear fuel manufacturer TVEL.

An International Atomic Energy Agency team of experts has concluded an 11-day Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review for Egypt. The mission, which was completed on 6 November, was conducted at the invitation of the Egyptian government.
