Indian workforce deal for GE-Hitachi

A preliminary agreement has been made by GE-Hitachi to "explore potential project design and workforce development opportunities" with Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE). The move is related to GE-Hitachi's aims to build ESBWR reactors at two sites in India, as a potentially agreed with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. Should those plans continue to develop GE-Hitachi could increase the local content of highly skilled work for India, while the potential to help projects in other countries was also noted. The head of TCE, R Srinivasan, said the company would be contributing to "ensure that India has the necessary project resources in place to build and operate new reactors." Areas of cooperation could include "workforce skills identification and devlopment as well as early feasibility design studies, product and project engineering work," said GE-Hitachi.
