Iran launches tender for two reactors
[IRNA, Associated Press, 15 April] Iran announced an international tender for the design and construction of two additional nuclear power reactors near the southern city of Bushehr, where the country's first nuclear power plant is nearing completion. Ahmad Fayyaz-Bakhsh, deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said the tender is for light water reactors with a capacity of up to 1600 MW each. Each would cost up to $1.7 billion and take up to eleven years to construct, he said. The bids for the two reactors will expire in early August. According to Fayyaz-Bakhsh, some European companies have already expressed their interest in participating in the project. AEOI head, Mohammad Saeedi, announced on 3 April that the organisation would hold a tender on 2000 MWe of new nuclear capacity in the next three to four months.
